Indiana University Cinema in Bloomington is set to launch its spring program on January 17, featuring notable guests and a diverse range of film series. Acclaimed documentarian Alexandre O. Philippe and actor/comedian Patton Oswalt are among the highlights.
Philippe will revisit IU Cinema with his project "Chain Reactions," exploring the impact of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre." Oswalt, featured in the film, will join him for an onstage conversation as part of the Jorgensen Guest Filmmaker Series. The visit includes a 35mm presentation of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" hosted by Oswalt, alongside screenings of "Chain Reactions" and "Night of Fear." Prior to this event, IU Cinema will show Pixar's "Ratatouille," starring Oswalt.
The International Art House Series will present films such as “Green Border,” “Bird,” “The Seed of the Sacred Fig,” “The Beast,” “The Taste of Things,” and Wim Wenders' “Perfect Days.” The New African Cinema series, in collaboration with several organizations, will feature films like “Eyimofe,” Mati Diop’s documentary “Dahomey,” and “Mambar Pierrette.”
AfroFutures: Black Women and Cinematic Storytelling will highlight Pan-African and African American women's experiences through films like “All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt” and Milisuthando Bongela’s documentary “Milisuthando.” Bongela will also conduct a workshop on filmmaking.
Not-Quite Midnights features include newly restored "The Fall," Golden Globe nominee "The Substance," a 10th-anniversary screening of "The Babadook," Oscar-winning visual effects film "Godzilla Minus One," and Irish language film "Kneecap."
A series celebrating Philip K. Dick's work includes adaptations such as Ridley Scott’s version of “Blade Runner” and its sequel, Denis Villeneuve's 2017 film with Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford. Other films include Schwarzenegger’s "Total Recall," action-packed "Screamers," and Spielberg’s thriller "Minority Report."
IU Cinema also plans special screenings including the 40th anniversary of “Clue” with playwright Sandy Rustin attending for a Q&A session, Welcome Week’s showing of “Pacific Rim in 3D,” Valentine’s Day screening of Quentin Tarantino-penned “True Romance,” along with other themed events throughout the season.
