David Reingold is set to return to Indiana University Bloomington as executive vice president and chancellor, marking the first time in nearly two decades that someone will hold this position. Reingold previously spent 18 years at IU Bloomington, including serving as executive associate dean for the Paul H. O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs from 2008 to 2015.

IU President Pamela Whitten expressed her enthusiasm about Reingold's return, stating, “I’m excited to welcome David back to Bloomington, a campus he not only understands but truly cherishes.” She added confidence in his leadership abilities: “I’m confident that David’s visionary leadership of our flagship campus, paired with his commitment to collaboration with faculty, staff and students, will drive us toward an even brighter future.”

Reingold will officially join Whitten’s cabinet on June 2. His responsibilities as chancellor will include overseeing finance and administration, community engagement, enrollment management, student life, research, and creative activities at the university. The Office of the Provost will continue managing academic functions.

Expressing his excitement about returning to IU Bloomington, Reingold said: “I am thrilled to return to the campus I once called home and humbled by this opportunity.” He further emphasized his dedication: “For nearly two centuries, IU Bloomington has served as an intellectual beacon for education, research and creative activity. It is with deep gratitude that I accept the call to serve this historic campus.”

Reingold brings extensive experience from Purdue University where he served as senior vice president for policy planning and Justin S. Morrill Dean of the College of Liberal Arts. At Purdue, he was involved in coordinating university organizations with federal government policy and led initiatives such as civics literacy degree requirements.

During his tenure at Purdue's College of Liberal Arts as dean, Reingold developed Cornerstone Integrated Liberal Arts—a national model for general education—and launched new degree programs including artificial intelligence and music. He also played a significant role in founding the Krach Institute for Tech Diplomacy.

Reingold’s previous leadership at IU Bloomington contributed significantly towards achieving top rankings for public affairs by U.S. News & World Report in 2016 during his time at the O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs.

His academic background includes a B.A. in sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and both a master’s degree and Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Chicago.
