Preparing for baby? IU Health Bloomington Hospital offers Baby Basics to best meet the needs of expectant parents. We cover what to expect regarding newborn procedures in the hospital, awareness of what's healthy and what may be a warning sign in newborns and the range of what to expect regarding newborn sleep and feeding.
Your instructor will also demonstrate and share how to care for your newborn. Learning how to diaper, swaddle, bathe and comfort a crying baby are part of this class. It may be helpful for you to have a diaper, swaddling blanket, and stuffed animal or baby doll for practice, though if you don't have these items for practice, there is no need to purchase them. You may also ask your nurse after delivery for education and assistance with newborn care.
If you have any questions please email our Childbirth Education Coordinator, Amanda Hinz at ahinz1@iuhealth.org
