 Bloomington is a vibrant community filled with activity. Each month there are numerous opportunities to enjoy and engage, socially and civically. The City will provide monthly updates on what is happening in and with the City and you will discover that no matter your interests or inclinations, there is something for everyone. 

EVENTS 

 Youth Artists' and Growers' Day at the Market

Date: Saturday, July 1

Time: 8 a.m.-1 p.m.

Cost: Free

Location: Showers Common, 401 N. Morton St. next to Bloomington's City Hall

Young farmers, artists, growers and entrepreneurs get their own booth space during this special day for kids at the Market. The Market is hosting other youth-oriented activities and youth-led entertainment too!

Bloomington Community Farmers' Market

Date: Every Saturday in July - July 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29

Time: 8 a.m.-1 p.m.

Cost: Free

Find a wide assortment of goods locally grown in farm and field, including fruits and vegetables, eggs, meats and cheeses, honey, seasonal flowers and annual and perennial plants. Food and beverage artisans provide a tasteful variety of satisfying breads, drinks, pastries and savory dishes.

Celebrate the 33rd Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act

The Council for Community Accessibility will be celebrating the 33rd Americans with Disabilities Anniversary. It's going to be on Saturday, July 29th, from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., at the City Hall, Fernandez Plaza (next to Farmers' Market). The Council for Community Accessibility Monroe County Public Library, Stone Belt, Indiana Institute for Disabilities and Community, Down Syndrome Family Connection, the Bloomington Human Rights Commission, and many others will be there with games, activities, information and more. The Wheelie Women from the MALL (Mobility Aids Lending Library) will be there, as well, to determine what mobility aids might work best for someone in need. Come, do some of the activities and games, get a cookie from Baked!, and talk with people with disabilities and those that support them.

BFD Hosts Car Seat Inspections

Date: July 3, July 17, July 24, and July 31

Time: Inspection by appointment at 10a, 11a,12p, 1p, and 2p each date

Cost: Free

Location: BFD’s Training and Logistics Center at 2917 McIntire Drive, Bloomington

Three out of four car seats are misused in Indiana. Many parents are unsure about car seat requirements, state laws and installation. Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will answer your questions, help with installation, and give recommendations to make your child safer. DIY Water Filtration

Location: Leonard Springs Nature Park, 4685 S. Leonard Springs Rd.

Join a Naturalist to discuss some of the negative effects of ingesting untreated water, go on a short hike to find an appropriate water source, and then learn how to filter and treat the water via different purification/filtration techniques.

The City of Bloomington Utilities (CBU) is pleased to announce our first ever Landscape Education Workshop. We are partnering with other City departments to provide information on sustainable landscaping. Topics will include: Best stormwater practices, appropriate plants to use, mowing and mulching techniques, a tour of Switchyard Park's landscaped features, and more! This event is FREE, open to the public, and registration is required. The workshop is geared towards landscapers, property managers, homeowner/neighborhood associations, and anyone enthusiastic about plants! Please plan on joining us at the Switchyard Park Pavilion on July 26th from 10am - 3pm (including a FREE lunch!). FREE parking is available in front of the pavilion. The Housing and Neighborhood Development (HAND) Department's Home Buyers Club offers participants a chance to explore the possibility of affordable home ownership. The goal of the class is to help first-time home buyers understand and overcome the obstacles involved in purchasing their first home and what to expect after buying a home. You will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with a housing counselor to discuss any potential obstacles in achieving your goal.
