Grenadiers Defeat Carlow and Fall to Point Park on Pittsburgh Trip
The Grenadiers held the Celtics to just 33 percent shooting in the first half and forced 10 turnovers to take a 37-22 lead at halftime.
Jocobi Hendricks and Glenn Hill opened the second half with back-to-back three pointers to extend the IU Southeast lead to 43-26.
An Armani Carr three-pointer pushed the lead to 61-41 with 10 minutes to play in the contest.
A furious rally by the Celtics cut the lead to 65-56 with 4:24 to play.
Jaivaughn Jackson hit a layup and Glenn Hill extended the lead to 69-59 when he hit a jumper with under three minutes to play.
Brevan Williams scored to cut the lead to 70-63 with 1:12 to play but two free throws by Caleb Brown put the lead back at nine points.
A steal by Anthone Wales Jr. and his two free throws secured the win for IU Southeast.
Lane Lauderbaugh led IU Southeast with 16 points and eight rebounds. Anthony Wales Jr., Glenn Hill and Christian Stewart all had 10 points in the win.
IU Southeast forced 22 turnovers but only scored 17 points off of turnovers in the contest. They outscored the Celtics 46-34 in the paint.
The Grenadiers battled Point Park in a double overtime thriller on Friday, but it was the Pioneers who came away with the 83-80 victory.
Point Park used a 10-0 run to extend their first half lead to 28-10.
JJ Reed hit a jumper for the Grenadiers to cut the lead to 13 at 35-22, but Point Park hit two free throws to take a 37-22 lead into halftime.
The Grenadiers opened the second half on an 11-2 run to narrow the Point Park lead to 39-33. Anthony Wales Jr. cut the lead to four at 40-36.
A three-point play by Lane Lauderbaugh cut the lead to two, and JJ Reed tied the game at 43-43 with a layup. IU Southeast took their first second half lead at 47-46 on a Christian Stewart layup.
A JJ Reed three gave the Grenadiers a 52-48 lead, but Point Park tied it up once more at 52-52.
A Point Park three gave the Pioneers the lead with 4:35 remaining. The Grenadiers trailed 57-54, but a three-point play by JJ Reed tied the game at 57-57.
Point Park used an offensive rebound and a tip in to jump in front 61-59 with a minute to play, but JJ Reed answered once again, tying the game at 61-61. The game would head to overtime.
JJ Reed continued his scoring run, giving the Grenadiers a 63-61 lead with the first basket of overtime. Point Park answered with a 5-0 run to take a 66-63 lead with 3:20 left.
A Glenn Hill layup narrowed the Point Park lead to one, and a Jocobi Hendricks basket gave IU Southeast a 67-66 lead.
A three-point play by Point Park put the Pioneers ahead 69-67, and a layup gave the Pioneers a 71-67 lead with 1:31 left in overtime.
Jaivaughn Jackson hit two free throws to narrow the deficit to 71-69, but a jumper by Point Park extended the lead to 73-69 with 47 seconds remaining.
Glenn Hill made two free throws and the Grenadiers forced a turnover on the inbounds pass with 34 seconds remaining. A Jocobi Hendricks layup tied the game at 73-73, which would be the score as the teams headed to a second overtime period.
Point Park opened the second overtime period with a 5-2 run to take a 78-75 lead. A jumper by the Pioneers extended their lead to 80-75 with 2 minutes remaining.
A free throw by Lane Lauderbaugh cut the Grenadiers deficit to 80-77 with 1:28 left. Point Park hit one of two free throws, and Jocobi Hendricks responded with a three-point play to cut the Point Park lead to 81-80 with 22 seconds remaining.
Point Park went one of two from the line once more, but the Grenadiers could not get the tying shot to fall with 4 seconds remaining. An immediate foul sent the Pioneers back to the line, where they split a pair once again.
The Grenadiers had one final shot to tie, but it was off the mark as Point Park secured an 83-80 double overtime victory over IU Southeast.
JJ Reed scored 23 points in his first start of the season. Jocobi Hendricks, Glenn Hill and Lane Lauderbaugh all finished in double figures for the Grenadiers.
