IU Southeast Falls To Brescia 87-75 To Open Conference Play

The IU Southeast men's basketball team could not contain the three-point shooting of Brescia and fell 87-75 to open conference play on Tuesday.

The Bearcats were carried by Tay Smith's 38 points on 14-of-23 shooting from the field. He had 28 points in the first half and connected on five three-pointers. Zion Brown had all 14 of his points in the second half for Brescia, and he hit four three-pointers.

Though Smith had 28 in the opening half, the Bearcats could not pull away.  Anthony Wales Jr. kept the Grenadiers within reach with 14 of his 16 in the first half.

After a Nevin Graves three-pointer extended the Brescia lead to 45-39 late in the first half, Glenn Hill answered with a layup to cut the lead to 45-41.

Tay Smith responded with a three-pointer push the lead to seven. Brescia led 51-45 at halftime.

In the second half, the Grenadiers cut the lead to 55-54 with 14:40 to play on an Armani Carr layup, but the Bearcats pulled away with a 17-6 run to take a 72-60 lead.

IU Southeast would not get closer than eight points for the remainder of the contest.

The Grenadiers' perimeter attack stalled as they shot just 3-of-15 from behind-the-arc in the game. Brescia was 12-of-20 (60 percent).

The IU Southeast bench was outscored 24-9 by the Bearcats in the contest.

All five starters scored in double figures for IU Southeast led by Wales's 16. Christian Stewart had 15 points, Jocobi Hendricks added 13 and Glenn Hill and Lane Lauderbaugh each had 11 in the loss.

IU Southeast travels to Oakland City Saturday at 4 p.m. ET.
