Grenadiers Fall To Rio Grande To Conclude Regular Season

The IU Southeast volleyball team fell 25-16, 17-25, 25-12, 25-19 to Rio Grande on Saturday.

Ella Brooks led the Grenadiers with 19 kills and 21 digs. Jessi Kramer had nine kills and Alexis Franks added eight in the loss.

IU Southeast trailed 10-7 in the first set when the RedStorm scored five-straight points to take a 15-7 advantage.

A kill by Maggie Purichia cut the lead to 19-11 but Rio Grande recorded three-straight points to win the first set 25-16.

The Grenadiers opened the second set on a 12-5 run which put the frame out of reach. An ace by Lexi Striegel followed by an attack error capped off that rally for IU Southeast.

An 8-3 run extended the Grenadier lead to 20-8. Ella Brooks had five kills during that run and Jessi Kramer added a pair.

Abby Ruzanka won the set with a kill.

The third set was dominated by the RedStorm. Rio Grande led 10-3 and then 21-9. After hitting .294 and .256 in the first two sets, the IU Southeast attack percentage plummeted to .062 in the third set.

IU Southeast trailed 10-4 in the fourth set and could not get closer than a five-point deficit for the remainder of the match.

Cate Murphy had 25 assists for IU Southeast. Jessi Kramer had three total blocks and Alexis Franks added two.

IU Southeast will learn its RSC Quarterfinal opponent and match time when tournament information is released later this weekend.
