Grenadiers Fall To IU Kokomo Friday
The IU Southeast volleyball team fell 25-21, 25-12, 25-15 to IU Kokomo on Friday.
The Grenadiers (9-10, 5-5 RSC) led by as many as six points in the first set and had a 19-14 advantage after a Jessi Kramer kill and a Kokomo attack error.
But the Cougars (19-5, 8-1 RSC) answered with a 6-0 run that forced an IU Southeast timeout. Abby Ruzanka tied the set at 20 with a kill but the Cougars scored five of the final six points to take the first set.
In the second set, the period was tied at 9 before a huge run by the Cougars put the set away. Tori Wilkinson served for 10-straight points to as the Cougars took a 16-9 lead.
Audrey Strawsma then served for five consecutive points, and had an ace, to extend the lead to 22-11. Two kills and a Grenadier attack error won the set for IU Kokomo.
In the third set, a IU Kokomo error cut the Cougar lead to 9-7 but a 8-2 run for IU Kokomo saw the Cougars pull away.
IU Southeast chipped away at the lead by scoring five of the next seven points, bookended with kills from Ruzanka and Maggie Purichia, but IU Kokomo scored five of the last six points of the match for the sweep.
Jessi Kramer had eight kills to lead IU Southeast, and Ella Brooks added six while Purichia had five. Ella Brooks led the Grenadiers in digs with 10 and Cate Murphy had 12 assists.
IU Southeast travels to Alice Lloyd College Saturday at 1 p.m.
