Grenadiers Sweep Carlow On Saturday

The IU Southeast volleyball team swept Carlow 25-15, 25-14, 25-13 on Saturday.

The Grenadiers used a 7-0 run early in the first set to take an 11-4 lead. A 3-0 run later in the set gave IU Southeast a 20-10 advantage. A kill by Ella Brooks and an ace by Cate Murphy gave the Grenadiers a 25-15 victory in set one.

The Grenadiers led 9-6 early in the second set. An 8-0 run extended the IU Southeast lead to 17-6. Ella Brooks and Kenzie Tingle each had two kills in that stretch. The lead would be extended to 23-9 after a quick 3-0 run. Carlow scored four straight points late in the set, but IU Southeast took a 2-0 lead in the match after a 25-14 second set victory.

The Grenadiers exploded out of the gate in the third set, scoring nine straight points before Carlow scored one. Cate Murphy bookended the run with aces. A second big run by the Grenadiers extended the IU Southeast lead to 16-2. A 5-0 run by Carlow cut the Grenadier lead to 16-7. IU Southeast answered with a 4-0 run to make it 20-7. A service error by Carlow gave the Grenadiers a 25-13 third set victory and a 3-0 sweep in the match.

Ella Brooks led the Grenadiers with 15 kills. Cate Murphy led IU Southeast with 17 assists and three aces. Averee Yoder had nine assists and Hannah Brown added eight. Hannah Brown also added two aces. Averee Yoder had 12 digs to lead the Grenadiers. Ella Brooks added nine, and both Lexi Striegel and Jessi Kramer had seven.

The Grenadiers move to 9-7 overall on the year and 5-2 in RSC play. IU Southeast travels to St. Mary-of-the-Woods on Tuesday.
