Grenadiers Take Down Oakland City To Remain Undefeated In Rsc Play

The IU Southeast volleyball team defeated Oakland City (25-22, 25-13, 17-25, 25-21) in four sets for the second time this season.

The Grenadiers started set one with three straight points. With the set tied at 8-8, IU Southeast jumped out in front 12-8 after a 4-0 run. Trailing 17-12, Oakland City used a 5-0 run to tie the set at 17-17. An attack error gave Oakland City a 21-19 advantage, but the Grenadiers closed the set with a 6-1 run to take the first set 25-22. Kills by Jessi Karmer and Alexis Franks sparked the final run and a couple of attack errors extended the lead to 23-21. Two kills by Emilee Organ won the set for IU Southeast.

The second set saw the Grenadiers jump out to an 8-2 lead. Oakland City managed to narrow the deficit to 16-13, but the Grenadiers closed the set on a 9-0 run to take a 2-0 lead in the match. IU Southeast had 15 kills to Oakland City's six in the second set.

The third set saw back and forth action to start. Oakland City extended their lead to 18-10 with a 6-0 run. The Grenadiers were able to narrow the gap to 23-17, but Oakland City took the third set 25-17.

Oakland City opened the fourth set with a 7-0 run. Trailing 8-2, the Grenadiers used a 5-0 run to narrow the deficit to 8-7. Oakland City attempted to pull away, using a quick run to take a 15-10 lead. IU Southeast answered with a 9-1 run to take a 19-16 lead. Ella Brooks had three kills and Alexis Franks had two to put IU Southeast back in front.

Oakland City cut the Grenadier advantage to 19-18 and 20-19, but IU Southeast closed on a 5-2 run to take the fourth set 25-21 and the match 3-1. Emilee Organ and Jessi Kramer had two kills, then a setting errror and another Kramer kill forced match point. An Oakland City kill prolonged the match but an attack error secured the win for IU Southeast.

Emilee Organ led the Grenadiers with 18 kills. Jessi Kramer added 11 and Ella Brooks had nine. IU Southeast had five aces as a team, led by Hannah Brown with two. Cate Murphy led IU Southeast with 14 assists. Hannah Brown chipped in 13 assists and Kenzie Tingle had 12. Averee Yoder led the Grenadiers with 23 digs, and Emilee Organ was second on the team with 14.

IU Southeast moved to 8-5 on the season and 4-0 in RSC play. The Grenadiers travel to IU Kokomo on Tuesday.
