Grenadiers Defeat Oakland City To Open Rsc Play

The IU Southeast volleyball team opened the 2022 RSC schedule with a 3-1 victory against Oakland City on Tuesday.

The first set went back and forth with neither team able to extend their lead early. IU Southeast took a 11-9 lead, but Oakland City responded with a 5-1 run to take a 14-12 advantage. Oakland City never relinquished the lead after that point, taking the first set 25-21 over the Grenadiers.

The Grenadiers jumped out to an 11-4 lead in the second set. A 7-3 run extended the IU Southeast advantage to 18-7, which led to an Oakland City timeout. Oakland City used an 8-1 run later in the set to narrow the deficit to 24-21, but a kill by Maggie Purichia gave the Grenadiers a 25-21 victory in the second set.

After a back and forth start to the third set, the Grenadiers used a quick 3-0 run to take a 15-9 lead. After an Oakland City point, the Grenadiers used a 6-0 run to extend their lead to 21-10. IU Southeast went on to take the third set 25-14.

IU Southeast jumped out to a 12-7 lead in the fourth set. Facing a 15-10 deficit, Oakland City used a 4-1 run to cut the lead to 16-14. A 4-0 run extended the Grenadier lead to 20-14. Oakland City was able to pull within three at 20-17, but IU Southeast closed on a 5-0 run to take the fourth set 25-17 and the match 3-1.

Jessi Kramer led the Grenadiers with nine kills. Ella Brooks added eight kills and Abigail Vogel had seven. Cate Murphy led IU Southeast with 21 assists. Abigail Vogel had two of IU Southeast's three aces.

Four Grenadiers finished with double digit digs. Lexi Striegel led IU Southeast with 15. Cate Murphy added 14, Averee Yoder had 11 and Ella Brooks added 10.

IU Southeast (5-5, 1-0 RSC) travels to Brescia for an RSC matchup next Tuesday.
