Grenadiers Fall To St. Ambrose And Indiana Tech

The IU Southeast volleyball team fell in both matches at Indiana Tech on Saturday. The Grenadiers fell 3-0 to Saint Ambrose University in the first match and 3-2 to Indiana Tech in the second.

The Grenadiers jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first set against Saint Ambrose, but the Fighting Bees used an 8-1 run to take a 9-6 advantage. After IU Southeast narrowed the lead the 11-10, Saint Ambrose used a 14-1 run to take the first set 25-11.

IU Southeast took a 10-6 lead in the second set. The Fighting Bees swung the momentum and took a 21-17 advantage, but the Grenadiers responded with a 5-0 run to take the lead back at 22-21. With the two teams deadlocked at 23-23, Saint Ambrose scored two straight points to take the second set 25-23.

Saint Ambrose scored the first point of the third set and never allowed the Grenadiers to hold a lead. The Fighting Bees, leading 11-9, used an 8-2 run to extend their lead to 19-11. Saint Ambrose would win the third set 25-13 and the match 3-0.

Emilee Organ led the Grenadiers with 12 kills. Cate Murphy delivered 12 assists and led the team with two aces. Averee Yoder led IU Southeast with 15 digs.

In IU Southeast's second match of the day, Indiana Tech jumped out to a 15-6 first set lead. Indiana Tech maintained the lead, taking the first set 25-16.

Indiana Tech jumped out to an 18-9 lead in the second set. The Grenadiers chipped away, tying the set up at 21-21. The Grenadiers took a 24-22 lead, but Indiana Tech tied the set at 24-24. IU Southeast responded with two points of their own, including a kill by Brooks, to win the second set 26-24.

The third set saw the Grenadiers jump out to a 12-6 lead. IU Southeast closed the set on an 11-3 run to take the third set 25-16 and take a 2-1 set lead in the match. Emilee Organ had three kills during that run to help win the set.

The fourth set saw the Grenadiers lead 10-7, but Indiana Tech used an 8-0 run to jump in front 15-10. IU Southeast was able to pull within three at 16-13 but could never close the gap as Indiana Tech would take the fourth set 25-19.

In the fifth set, Indiana Tech pulled in front 11-8 and then 13-10. The Grenadiers closed the gap to 13-12 and 14-13, but a kill by Indiana Tech gave them a 15-13 fifth set win and a 3-2 match victory over IU Southeast.

Ella Brooks led the Grenadiers with 16 kills, followed by Emilee Organ with 15. Cate Murphy dished out 29 assists to lead the team. Hannah Brown led IU Southeast with two aces and added 14 assists of her own. Averee Yoder led the Grenadiers with 17 digs.

The Grenadiers fall to 4-5 on the season. They travel to Oakland City on Tuesday to open conference play.
