Grenadiers Fall To Campbellsville In 2022 Home Opener

Grenadiers Fall To Campbellsville In 2022 Home Opener

A slow start doomed the Grenadiers as they fell 25-12, 25-21, 25-22 to Campbellsville in the 2022 home opener for IU Southeast Friday night.

Alexis Franks had six kills to lead the Grenadiers and Ella Brooks and Abigail Vogel each added five in the loss.

IU Southeast (3-2) trailed 9-1 to open the contest and the deficit was too much to overcome. The Tigers (1-0) led by as many as 13 points in the set.

The second set was much closer and back-to-back kills by Emilee Organ put the Grenadiers in front 17-15. But the Tigers answered and outscored IU Southeast 10-4 to close the set.

In the third set IU Southeast trailed 15-11 before using a 7-1 run to take a 18-16 lead. Jessi Kramer had two kills in that rally to put the Grenadiers in front.

But a kill by Paige Merrick and an ace by Cierra Merrick put the Tigers in front 21-19. After a kill by Maggie Purichia cut the lead to one, back-to-back kills by McKenna Barfield and a kill by Molly Shannon put Campbellsville on match point. After an attack error extended the match, an IU Southeast service error ended it at 25-22.

Averee Yoder had 16 digs and Cate Murphy added 13 to go along with 11 assists.

Up next, the Grenadiers travel to Indiana Tech for a tournament on Sept. 9 and 10.
