GRENADIERS DEFEAT MIDWAY, FALL TO IU EAST IN RSC SEMIFINAL
The IU Southeast men's tennis team defeated No. 5 seed Midway 4-2 to open the 2022 River States Conference Tennis Championships on Friday, before falling in a heartbreaker to No. 2 IU East 4-2 in the semifinals.
No. 4 seed IU Southeast jumped out to a quick lead against Midway, taking the doubles point with a pair of 6-2 wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions.
Brent Reynolds extended the lead with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles and Eli Franks put the Grenadiers into a comfortable lead at 3-1 with a 6-7, 6-2,6-2 win at No. 3 singles.
Connor Mason clinched the match at the No. 6 position with a 6-3, 6-3 win.
Against IU East in the semifinals, IU Southeast fell behind 1-0 after dropping the doubles point.
But the Grenadiers battled back to tie the match at 2-2, with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Caleb Harris rolled 6-0, 6-0 and Brent Reynolds battled back after dropping the second set to win 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.
But the Red Wolves won at positions 3-5 to secure the victory and advance to the championship match.
