MONROE COUNTY COMMUNITY SCHOOL: Composting in MCCSC

Trashrecycle

Monroe County Community School Corpora issued the following announcement on Feb 26.

As of January 2020, MCCSC started a district-wide composting initiative managed by MCCSC Building Operations, and partnered with J.B.’s Salvage and Green Earth Recycling. Schools involved, so far are Marlin, Templeton, and The Academy of Science and Entrepreneurship. We will continue to expand into other schools slowly as we grow the initiative.

In each cafeteria, there is or will be at least one of each of the following:

  • A compost bin with a lid and compostable trash bag liners
    • JB’s collects bags on Tues. and Fri. and takes them to Green Earth Recycling for composting.
  • 5 gallon bucket for liquid waste
    • Goes down kitchen garbage disposal, daily.
Why is this important?

“Green schools have been shown to strengthen academic achievement using a variety of measures, including traditional, standardized test scores.” -The Benefits of Green Schools, Paul Chapman
